The Hummer H2 is a large SUV manufactured and marketed by Hummer from 2002 to 2009. The carmaker built this beast model in the AM General Facility under a contract managed by General Motors. When you compare it to prior generations of full-size SUVs, the H2 fits the bill. Now that the company has been purchased, manufacturing will begin again. The H2 is an impressive mountaineering tool, but it's too pricey if all you want to do is climb for fun.

History of the Hummer H2

Hummer H2 (2002–2009)

GM permitted reporters to view prototypes of the Hummer H2 in 2001 and 2002 while it was still in production. Under a contract with General Motors, the H2 was constructed at the AM General Military Assembly Plant in Mishawaka, Indiana. The new Hummer H2 still drew attention on the road for its unique and overwhelming off-road skills when it debuted in 2002. There was just one body design and trim level available for the H2, but dozens of new options and two different packages were available: Adventure Package and Lux Package. The H2 was equipped with a more advanced 4WD system and ABS technology than the Chevy pickups. Class-leading in its area, the H2's reduced front aspect, and 47-degree approach angle put it ahead of the pack.

Hummer H2 (2004–2009)

Hummer's Hummer H2 was redesigned in 2004 to include a Sport-Utility Truck in response to rising demand for recreational sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks. More than just a robust off-road vehicle, the Hummer was an icon. Arnold Schwarzenegger's appearance with an H1 model cemented their status as style icons. Every market has to have one of these cars soon. In contrast to the H1's ruggedness and toughness, Hummer came up with a smaller model: the H2. However, clients who requested a utility car were not satisfied with this. As a result, the Hummer truck was born. GM installed a 6.0-liter V8 engine from the Silverado underneath the bonnet. Only a 4-speed automatic gearbox was available.

Price

Hummer sold and marketed the Hummer H2 with an original MSRP of $63,090 ($85,019 in 2022) for the base model and $61,585 ($82,991 in 2022) for the SUT model.

Features of the Hummer H2

Interior Features

GM updated the H2's interior to reflect its luxury-vehicle price tag better, as it has done with many of its other recent models. Soft-touch materials have been used to create the new dashboard. In addition, the general fit and finish are excellent, and the replicated metal trim does a wonderful job of mimicking the real thing. Some parts of the house, like the exterior, are gigantic. However, it is composed of metal and has elements like actual Allen screws, giving it an industrial aspect, like the throttle from a commercial airplane. New power heated seats with standard leather upholstery are also included in the H2. The seat cushions are large, so they should be able to support a wide range of drivers' heights and weights. Second-row passengers benefit from ample legroom and plush seat cushions. However, the bench's backrest does not recline, preventing them from relaxing in a more comfortable posture. When folding down the seats, you must first turn forward the bottom cushion before folding down the backrest. However, this is simple and results in an enlarged load floor that is level with the cargo space—increasing from 40 to 86.6 cubic feet of cargo space by folding down the second row.

Exterior Features

Whether you like it or not, the H2 is a striking example of the importance of the 90-degree angle in automobile design. The SUV's off-road ability is aided by its characteristic seven-slot Hummer grille, which is lifted above the rest of the vehicle and sits high above the ground. The Ultra Marine option came with an eye-catching deep green paint that became purple under certain lighting conditions. You wouldn't expect a tough-looking SUV like the H2 to have this hue, yet it works wonderfully.
