The Hyundai i20 is a supermini hatchback manufactured and marketed by the South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai since 2008. The model debuted in October 2008 at the Paris Motor Show. The i20's primary markets are now in Europe and India, where two variants are produced for each area to accommodate demand.

History of the Hyundai i20

Hyundai i20 First Generation (PB; 2008–2014)

Hyundai unveiled the i20 at the Paris Motor Show in 2008. The old Getz compact MPV needed to be replaced, and this was the perfect vehicle to do it. They decided that the car would have to be a hatchback in their German design department in Russelsheim. A period of rapid growth was followed by its collapse due to the global economic crisis. Hyundai had expected to sell 1,000 copies of the i20 per year. The company didn't care much about local sales because they built the production line to export to European nations. Therefore, the i20 became something else. Many causes may have contributed to the surge in sales of the vehicle. Honda is the first thing to come to mind. In fact, Honda. Nissan released the Jazz at a premium of 1,20,000 yen above the Hyundai i20. As a result, the Honda Jazz was finally phased out, making the i20 an attractive option for consumers looking for good value. The automobile was far less expensive and had more features and amenities than its Japanese sibling. The 1.2L petrol and 1.4L diesel engines were available when Hyundai first introduced the automobile. On Indian roads, both engines were more than enough. The petrol engine produced 79 horsepower and 112 Nm of torque. The automobile produced 90 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque in diesel power. The safety was an additional bonus. The European NCAP gave the automobile a 5-star certification, which was the icing on the cake.

Hyundai i20 Second Generation (GB/IB; 2014–2020)

The i20, a small-class Hyundai, was initially unveiled in August of that year and had its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October of the same year. The new model's features included an improved safety framework, including new engines and aesthetic changes. Hyundai opted to create the automobile in its Russelsheim, Germany, design facility to appeal to European buyers. Hyundai built the Elite i20 to make a lasting impression in the United States. It featured all-new styling cues that elevated the vehicle's visual appeal to new heights. At the front of the automobile, its extended headlights and hexagonal grille made it appear broader. Four years after the i20's debut on the market, Hyundai revamped its supermini rival in 2018. As the segment of superminis grew in market dominance, automakers began to emphasize developing new models, including the i20. The carmaker better suited these vehicles for city driving with a hatchback form and a considerable amount of interior room. They could seat four people inside while still being able to fit into tight parking spots. Korean automaker Hyundai unveiled the facelifted i20 at the Auto Expo India in 2018.

Hyundai i20 Third Generation (BC3/BI3; 2020–Present)

Hyundai is ready for the next BS6 changeover. However, even though the automobile skipped the Auto Expo 2020, it arrived in India. Before the Coronavirus pandemic, Hyundai had planned to introduce the car in June 2020. The latest model was expected to have several new features. In terms of design, however, the vehicle may not have much to offer compared to its predecessor. There is a BS6-compliant 1.6-liter engine in the Grand i1o NiOs.

Price

Hyundai retails the Hyundai i20 with a starting price of ₹ 7.03 Lakh ($9,000) for the base model that goes up to ₹ 11.53 Lakh ($14,754) for the top-spec model.
